2022 Schedule

Friday, July 22nd

8:00am - 5:30pm: Wisconsin Camaro Autocross at Road America Motorplex
N7390 State Highway 67, Plymouth, WI 53073
Enter via Gate 4 off of Co Rd J (NOT the main gate)
New for 2022!

We kickoff the 2022 Wisconsin Camaro Rally at Road America's Briggs & Stratton Motorplex. Rather than weaving through a sea of cones on a large parking lot - we are racing on a hilly, narrow, course. The course will be laid out to better suit our high-powered, RWD Camaros! What a site to see... a big burly Camaro weaving on the track. See the Motorplex Track Map.

What's Autocross?? Check this video out from our friends at FVSCC. Here's another video with a different course layout. No experience needed to participate.

Morning Schedule:

8:30 - 9:00am Check-in
9:15 - 9:45am Instructed course walk-through
9:45am Drivers meeting
10:00am First set of competitive runs begin!
12:00pm First set ends

Afternoon Schedule:

12:15 - 12:45pm Optional course walk-through during lunch
12:45pm Drivers meeting
1:00pm Second set of competitive runs begin!
3:00pm Second set ends
3:15pm Third set of runs begin. This time fun runs (which may include spectator cars)!
5:00pm Third set ends
5:30pm Awards Presentation

Must register ahead of time. Deadline to register is 7/20.

Your first four runs (which start at 10am) will be your competitive-timed runs (elegable for awards). Once everyone has finished their four timed runs, the autocross track will be opened for timed fun runs for the participants. Even though these runs are timed, they do not count towards the competitive awards.

Awards categories for Camaro competitive classes are sorted by generation of Camaro (1st and 2nd place). Award for fastest time of the day will also be awarded.

We are partnered with Fox Valley Sports Car Club to assist with event structure and regulations. Track day participants are treated to plenty of track time.

What You Need:

  • A Driver's License
  • A Camaro in good working order: no loose/worn suspension parts, car battery is securely held in place, tires have no cord or metal showing, brakes and seat belts are in good shape, no big fluid leaks, etc.
  • A helmet: loaner helmets available for rent for $30.

Costs:

  • $50 for pre-registration DEADLINE is 7/20

Cruise Meetup Time: 9:30am (at Cheese Castle)

Cruise Departure Time: 10:30am SHARP

Cruise Start: Mars Cheese Castle in Kenosha, WI

Approx. Arrival Time: 1:30pm

Facebook Event RSVP Link: Here

Overview: This is a cruise hosted by the Chicago 5th Gen / Chicago Next Gen club. Starting line is at Mars Cheese Castle in Kenosha. THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEAR - We will NOT be meeting at Jelly Belly unlike previous years. Jelly Belly is closed due to COVID, so there's no reason to start the cruise there. Because of this, we will begin meeting at Mars Cheese Castle in Kenosha at 9:00/9:30am and will depart for the cruise at 10:30am sharp! Mars Cheese Castle is open (masks are required to enter) and is available for you to stock up on your Wisconsin cheese, sausage, beer, and snacks before we depart for the cruise. We will depart Mars Cheese Castle at 10:30am sharp and cruise to Lake Geneva via country highways and tree lined Rustic Roads while admiring our Wisconsin scenery. Glacial hills and winding roads and a whole bunch of fun are included on the route. We will be traveling at a safe but brisk pace.

There will be two stops on the way to Lake Geneva: First is at Bushnell Park in Burlington for some photo-ops and bathroom break. Second is in Lyons for a fuel stop.  Arrival in Lake Geneva is approximately 1:30pm. Approx cruise length is 61 miles.

The end destination is the Lake Geneva Eastview Elementary School Parking Lot.  If you would like to join Chicago 5th Gen / Chicago Next Gen club for lunch, they have lunch set up at Gino's East for $19 per adult for non-C5G/CNG members. Details regarding payment can be found on their website: Here.

You are not required to eat with the group. Once we are in Lake Geneva, you are free to explore or eat on your own. You will find me (Andy) at the Geneva Lake Brewing Co.

This is a rain or shine event!

  • If the leader of the group must pull off to the side of the road to allow others to catch up, turn on hazard lights, and pull off the road in a safe manner.  Once the group is caught up, the last car must pull out into the road first and flash their lights to let the others know it is all clear.

How to Load Cruise Maps into Google Maps (Android)

Wisconsin Camaro uses a program online called Google My Maps to create the cruise maps we follow in our cars.  We've tried many phone apps and have not had good luck...

To follow along in a cruise (or if you get lost) we recommend downloading the cruise map to your phone beforehand and follow along as you drive.  This will create a blue route overlay onto Google Maps that you can follow and "trace the steps".  Unfortunately Google Navigation does not work with this custom created route - so you'll have to keep your eyes on the map every once in awhile.

It is STRONGLY recommended that you place your phone into a phone holder in your Camaro and have a means of charging it.  The cruise leader usually sets their phone's display to "never turn off".

The directions below show you how to load the map into Google Maps if you have an Android phone (iPhone & Windows phones may be similar).

Step 1: Click/touch the map hyperlink in the cruise event page. Select your gmail account you use for Google Maps to open.

MyMaps_1

Step 2: Map will open in a new browser. Click/touch the name of the map on the bottom of the screen (circled here in red).

MyMaps_2

Step 3: The following menu opens.  Make sure both boxes are checked. If they aren't the map on Step 2 would be blank.  Close the window/browser.

MyMaps_3

Step 4: Open Google Maps app and click/touch the menu icon in the upper left (circled here in red).

MyMaps_4

Step 5: Click/touch "Your places" (circled here in red).

MyMaps_5

Step 6: Scroll the tabs all the way to the right and click/touch "MAPS" and click/touch the Camaro Cruise map (circled here in red).

MyMaps_6

Step 7: Cruise map is now visible on your Google Maps. You can zoom and pan - you cannot edit the map.

MyMaps_7

Step 8: If you open the Google Maps menu (three lines symbol), you'll now see that the cruise map is highlighted. Click/touch this to hide/show the map.

MyMaps_8

Step 9: When the cruise is underway, click/touch and HOLD the GPS icon on the bottom right (circled here in red) to toggle your view heading (if enabled). When you are on the cruise route, the blue line on the roads will appear. Follow it! (not pictured here)
